Azm-e-Istekham operation to be launched to combat terrorism, extremism

MM News Staff by MM News Staff
June 22, 2024

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the apex committee convened on Saturday and approved the nationwide launch of operation “Azm-e-Istehkam” to effectively combat terrorism and extremism.

This high-level meeting included the chiefs of armed forces, federal ministers, chief ministers, and chief secretaries, who collectively recognized the urgent need for this operation.

According to a post-meeting statement, operation ‘Azm-e-Istehkam’ embodies the nation’s steadfast commitment to eradicating terrorism and extremism, aiming to secure stability and safety for all citizens.

“The fight against terrorism and extremism is Pakistan’s own war, vital for our survival and prosperity,” the Apex committee emphasized, highlighting the critical nature of this national endeavor.

The committee also discussed new security measures for Chinese nationals residing in Pakistan and emphasized the enforcement of multilateral principles from the National Action Plan, targeting any identified deficiencies.

Moreover, the committee announced upcoming legislative actions to enhance the prosecution of terrorism-related cases, reaffirming a zero-tolerance policy towards threats to the nation’s integrity and stability.

Looking ahead, the committee pledged to strengthen political and diplomatic regional cooperation to dismantle terrorist networks and eliminate their operational capabilities, reinforcing Pakistan’s dedication to regional peace and security.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stressed that the battle against terrorism requires a united national effort and cannot be borne solely by the armed forces.

He called for setting aside political differences, framing the struggle as essential for the nation’s survival.

Highlighting the need for robust security measures, Sharif advocated for legislative reinforcement to strengthen security institutions and close legal gaps that may aid terrorism.

“We must eliminate these legal loopholes and counter false propaganda,” he declared, emphasizing the importance of ensuring that truth prevails over falsehoods.

Shehbaz Sharif also called for clarity of purpose among political and religious ranks in the war against terrorism, stressing the need to protect future generations.

He urged for a consensus-driven approach, rising above political differences to achieve the collective goal.

The Prime Minister noted that combating terrorism requires not only a kinetic response but also non-kinetic measures to counter terrorist narratives.

He emphasized the importance of active diplomacy with regional countries to tighten the net around terrorists.

In a poignant moment, Sharif condemned those who have poisoned social discourse with divisive rhetoric, labeling speaking against the nation as a severe crime.

He proposed strict laws to foster unity and suppress divisive forces within society.

“We must enact laws that promote harmony and extinguish hatred,” Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif concluded, calling for concerted efforts to protect the nation from external threats and internal discord.
