ISLAMABAD: An alleged attempt to abduct a newborn from the Mother and Child Centre at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) was foiled after hospital security staff intervened in time, with police detaining three women and safely recovering the infant.
According to PIMS sources, the women allegedly attempted to take the newborn out of the nursery. A minor girl accompanying them was carrying the baby, and the group had reportedly reached the hospital gate.
The security guard on duty became suspicious of the women and the girl and stopped them before they could leave the premises. The newborn was recovered and the matter was subsequently handed over to the police.
According to police, preliminary investigations suggest that the suspects allegedly gained access to the newborn after deceiving the child’s mother and approaching the infant under the pretext of showing affection and care.
The detained women have been shifted to the Women Police Station, while further investigation into the incident is underway. Initial information suggests that the alleged group is from Lahore.
Islamabad Police has urged citizens to immediately report any suspicious activity by calling the police helpline at 15.
