KARACHI: As the term of local bodies came to an end, former MQM-P parliamentary leader Aslam Afridi in Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), allegedly took valuables from the department.
According to sources, Aslam Afridi took several items including three air conditioners, two computers, a water dispenser and other stationery from the KMC office after the term of local bodies ended.
Sources further said all the above-mentioned items were state-owned and were taken as if they were his personal property. The Council Secretariat of KMC audited these items twice during four years tenure of Aslam Afridi, sources said.
In this regard, the Leader of the Opposition in KMC and PPP leader Karamullah Waqasi while talking to MM News said “It is a very bad move that people trust you and send you to the House and you do such a bad job”.
“I was also given an office in KMC. All the items that were in my office are still there and I made a list of all the items and handed them over to the office bearers,” Waqasi added. He also alleged that Afridi had taken a table and chair apart from these items.
The parliamentary leader of Jamaat-e-Islami at KMC, Junaid Makati said these people received votes by using linguistic slogans, and nothing has been given to voters except looting the government treasury.
He said it was the responsibility of the department and the concerned officers to take legal action to recover the items from Afridi.
On the other hand, Aslam Afridi rejected the allegations saying “even if I took a single straw from the office, I will pay from my own pocket if it is proved”.
Replying to a question he said, “If it has been mentioned twice in the audit report, the officers will be involved and the same people will be responsible for the disappearance of the goods”.
