The Punjab Home Department forwarded the request to the federal government, which was duly granted. According to available information, the Army has been called in as per Article 245 of the Constitution.
The situation in Punjab turned violent after Imran Khan’s arrest, with protesters taking to the streets and damaging public and private property. On Tuesday, Federal Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazir Tarar warned that legal matters should not be settled on the roads and that nobody would be allowed to damage public or private property.
The decision to call in the Army was made in an apparently effort to restore peace and order to the province. The Army has been tasked with ensuring that the protests do not escalate and that the safety and security of the people are not compromised.
