The poor performance of the Pakistan cricket team in the current ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 has again activated the rumour factory of replacing the incumbent skipper Babar Azam and major changes in the team.
Babar XI is under fire after losing three straight matches in the World Cup from arch-rival India, Australia and then Afghanistan, which made the advancement of the Green Shirts in the mega tournament difficult.
The rumours of replacing Babar Azam were fumed when Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Zaka Ashraf met Sarfaraz Ahmed and Shahnawaz Dahani, extending his congratulations to Karachi Whites on winning the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2023-24.
Sarfaraz Ahmed, who has also represented the national team as captain, added yet another feather to his cap by lifting the prestigious Quaid-e-Azam Trophy at Gaddafi Stadium earlier this week after Karachi Whites outclassed Faisalabad Region and defeated them by 456 runs.
It is being claimed that Sarfaraz Ahmed will likely replace Babar Azam in the upcoming tour of Australia as Test captain. Here the question arises will be making changes and replacing captains after defeats in the major tournaments? Is this the only solution to the problem?
If the PCB is not happy with the team’s performance now, it has to blame itself not others because the squad was selected after the approval of the board. Cricket fans are furious over the performance and angry too but the team currently needs support of the nation as it is not yet over for the Green Shirts.
