PESHAWAR: The alleged mastermind behind the deadly terrorist attack on the Khazina Banda police check post in Hangu, in which 10 police personnel, including a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), were killed, has been shot dead during a joint operation by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and security forces.
Media reports quoted police officials saying the operation was launched after security agencies detected the movement of 15 to 18 suspected militants in the Chapri Naryab area of Hangu district. During the operation, the most wanted suspect was killed in an exchange of fire.
According to officials, the slain militant was allegedly the key planner of the July 29 attack on the Khazina Banda police check post.
The assault on the check post left 10 police personnel, including a DSP, dead, while 28 others sustained injuries. The attack was one of the deadliest incidents targeting law enforcement personnel in the region in recent months.
Authorities said operations against militant groups in the area would continue, while investigations into the attack and efforts to trace other suspects remain underway.
