Renowned singer and actor Ali Zafar is set to lend his melodious voice to the anthem of the 2024 season of Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 9, as announced by the international cricket league on Friday.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the PSL confirmed Ali Zafar’s involvement, stating, “Ali Zafar is set to immerse his magic into the official HBL PSL anthem 2024.” The post also included a nostalgic nod to the league’s first anthem, “Seeti Tou bajay ge,” which was also sung by Zafar.
This marks Ali Zafar’s fourth contribution to the anthem of one of the world’s premier cricket leagues, having previously provided his vocals for the first three editions. However, his involvement paused allegations of harassment by Pakistani singer Meesha Shafi in 2018.
A one-minute video shared by the PSL on YouTube and X showcased Zafar skillfully playing the tunes of his previous anthems on the piano. The anticipation grows as he is expected to collaborate with Aima Baig, who had been part of the anthem for the 2021 and 2022 editions. Baig hinted at the possibility through an emoji reaction on an entertainment website’s story related to the upcoming anthem on her Instagram story.
Ali Zafar, responding to the PSL’s announcement, expressed excitement, affirming that his song would set the stage for the upcoming event.
The much-anticipated T20 league is scheduled to commence on February 17 in Lahore, featuring the opening match between defending champions Lahore Qalandars and Islamabad United. Six teams will participate in the 34-match T20I tournament, with Qalandars’ captain, Shaheen Shah Afridi, eyeing the opportunity to make history by securing the title for the third time.
