BHAKKAR: A court in Bhakkar has granted bail to Ali Amin Gandapur, a leader of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party and former federal minister, in a case related to firing on a police checkpoint.
The Senior Civil Judge Muhammad Asif Niaz pronounced the decision reserved earlier on Wednesday, directing the PTI leader to submit a Rs50,000 surety bond.
However, as soon as the bail was granted, a team of Lahore police arrived in Bhakkar to take Ali Amin Gandapur into custody from the local police. The Bhakkar court handed over Gandapur to Lahore police on a one-day transit remand.
Gandapur was produced in the Bhakkar court amid tight security arrangements where Judge Asif Niaz announced the decision in the case pertaining to Gandapur’s resorting to firing on the Dajal police checkpost. Judge Asif Niaz rejected demand of Bhakkar police to grant more physical remand of Gandapur.
Lawyers of the PTI’s legal team were also present in the court and demanded the dismissal of the case from the court.
