Authorities in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) have announced a major crackdown against the banned Joint Action Awami Committee (JAAC), deciding to take action against its alleged facilitators both within the country and abroad amid growing security concerns.
According to local media reports, the government has decided to block the passports and national identity cards of individuals associated with the banned organization.
Names of committee members and facilitators are also being added to the Exit Control List (ECL), while details of the assets and properties of the group’s leadership have been sought. Authorities further said that action would be taken against the organization’s financial support network and that properties belonging to its leaders could be sealed.
Officials said the measures were taken in the context of national security. They also warned that action would be initiated against individuals accused of spreading what authorities described as false propaganda against state institutions on social media.
Meanwhile, AJK Police rejected claims made by the banned committee and alleged that the group had been intimidating people wishing to leave the ongoing protest movement. Police officials said transportation facilities would be provided to those returning home.
In a separate incident, authorities alleged that armed members linked to the banned committee opened fire on a police armored vehicle during a flag march in Rawalakot, damaging the vehicle.
