For the first time in Pakistan’s history, the number of active taxpayers has exceeded 6.5 million, according to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), reflecting significant progress in expanding the country’s tax base.
FBR officials reported that income tax return filings have reached a record high, driven by stringent government policies and comprehensive reforms aimed at increasing tax compliance.
The latest budget measures have imposed strict penalties on non-filers, making tax registration mandatory for various financial transactions.
Authorities attribute this rise in tax filers to enhanced enforcement efforts, the digitalization of tax processes, and sustained public awareness campaigns.
Additionally, the government is intensifying efforts to bring previously untapped sectors into the tax net, further strengthening revenue collection.
