QUETTA: A session court has directed police to register a case against Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan and a police officer for their alleged involvement in the rioting outside the Balochistan Assembly on June 18.

The additional session judge gave the direction after hearing a petition by opposition MPA Abdul Wahid Siddique for the registering of an FIR and the chief minister and former SSP Operations Ahmed Mohiuddin Baloch.

The court directed the Bijli Road SHO to register a case against the CM and the police officer under Section 22-A of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).

On June 18, a clash had occurred between police and opposition members who locked up the gates of the assembly building to prevent government members from attending the budget session.

The opposition members had claimed that police used an armoured vehicle for breaking one of the gates in which members of the assembly belonging to the opposition were injured.

Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Abdul Wahid Siddique and two other MPAs were injured after an armored personnel carrier (APC) broke the back gate of the Balochistan Assembly as opposition lawmakers held a sit-in outside the assembly‘s building.

The atmosphere turned tense after the opposition’s lawyers stopped the assistant commissioner from entering the provincial assembly.  Clashes erupted between the police and the opposition lawmaker when Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan arrived at the assembly.

The opposition MPA’s has vowed to not let the budget session be held. Police said the MPAs nominated could not be arrested without completing investigations and collecting evidence.

The opposition members stayed at the police station for 15 days without being arrested. Later, they left the police station when the government withdrew the FIR against them.
