Japan is all ready to host the Tokyo 2020 with a scaled-down opening ceremony due to the Covid-19 restrictions.
According to media reports, only 950 people will be allowed to attend the opening ceremony. The first lady of the United States will also attend the opening ceremony.
Last year’s delayed Olympics will start today. The multinational Games were scheduled to start on August 24 last year but were postponed. The main reason for the postponement was the outbreak of the deadly coronavirus, a new strain of coronavirus, around the world, including Japan.
Japan is now bracing for a tough two weeks as fears of an outbreak of Covid still looms large in the country despite not allowing any spectators for the showpiece event this year. This will be the first time the Olympics will be held behind closed doors to minimise health risks from the deadly virus which has wreaked havoc in the last year and a half.
The Tokyo Olympics will run from July 23 to August 9. Massive protests have taken place all over Japan, asking for the cancellation of the Games but Tokyo 2020 organisers and the International Olympics Committee (IOC) are willing to put their reputation at risk to go ahead with the delayed Olympics amid the challenges they continue to face in another pandemic year.
