The National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) has suggested that schools and other educational institutions should go on summer break from July 18 onwards. A final decision on the matter will be taken by the Inter-Provincial Education Conference (IPEC), which is likely to be convened soon.

The NCOC has proposed that schools should go on summer break from July 18 to August 1. However, the Punjab government has opposed the suggestion and instead, proposed that schools go on summer break from July 2 to August 2.

The government is in a strange dilemma after the first wave of coronavirus in Pakistan. Students, parents and even the teachers themselves are suffering from the ongoing educational crisis in the country for the past two years.

After a significant drop in the rate of COVID-19 cases in Pakistan, the Centre and the provinces decided to open educational institutions and also announced to conduct examinations across the country.

Meanwhile, Asad Omar, federal minister and head of the National Command and Operations Center (NCOC), said a fourth wave of the deadly wave could hit Pakistan in July. Earlier, the Sindh government had issued a warning about the fourth wave of coronavirus in the country.

Children have less immunity than adults and that is why educational institutions in the country were closed. Now the question is: Why was it necessary to open educational institutions in the country despite the fears of the fourth wave?

While education is being harmed by such government measures, students and parents are also suffering from severe mental anguish.  The government should take all aspects into consideration while making any decision instead of making hasty decisions. ۔
