ISLAMABAD: Amazon, the world’s largest e-commerce company, has formally added Pakistan to its approved sellers’ list.

Pakistan has been approved for registration in the verified Amazon seller list. Adviser to Prime Minister on Commerce Razak Dawood said Amazon has confirmed that Pakistan has been added to its sellers’ list.

“It is a big accomplishment for our E-Commerce & will open up vast opportunities for a new breed of young men & women entrepreneurs. We congratulate everyone involved,” said the adviser.

Pakistan is the only South Asian nation which is not included in the list of 102 countries on Amazon’s platform, despite being one of the biggest manufacturing economies in the region.

Last year, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) ranked Pakistan 116th in the 152-nations B2C E-commerce Index.

Earlier this month, the adviser said that Amazon’s listing was an important milestone of the government’s e-commerce policy, which has been achieved through teamwork by many people across the globe.

Amazon has an inventory of about 12 million items across all its categories and services. With the arrival of Amazon in Pakistan, job opportunities in Pakistan will increase and business owners will be able to benefit from it. Amazon’s global net revenue increases by approximately $45 billion on a year-on-year basis.

Pakistan’s e-commerce market size posted a growth of over 35% in the first quarter of the current fiscal year to Rs96 billion, compared with Rs71 billion over the corresponding period of the previous year.

The move will allow Pakistani products to be available to millions of consumers globally. The technology company had also registered an office in Pakistan under the name Amazon Data Services Pakistan (Pvt) Ltd.

According to Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), Paul Andrew Macpherson would serve as the CEO of the office. The company was incorporated in 2019 but has been updated in March this year.
