LAHORE: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has resumed direct flight operation to Bahrain on Friday.
According to PIA spokesman, the national flag carrier’s first flight, PK-189 with 156 passengers on board took off from the Allama Iqbal International Airport Lahore for Bahrain today.
The spokesman further said PIA will operate direct flights to Bahrain twice a week from Lahore and Islamabad. Direct flights will facilitate passengers by reducing their travel time, according to the airline.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of PIA said restoration of flight operations on profit-making routes is a key part of the Pakistan International Airlines revival plan. He also vowed to start direct flights to more international destinations in the foreseeable future.
Earlier, PIA had announced to increase the number of its international flights to various countries due to increasing traveling needs.
According to the spokesperson of PIA, the flights will be increased for Afghanistan, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan. He said that the national flag carrier will operate five flights in a week between Pakistan and Afghanistan in the first phase.
In the second phase, seven flights will operate between Pakistan and Kabul on a weekly basis. PIA had also announced to operate direct flights to Tashkent city in Uzbekistan. The flights will be operated between Lahore and Tashkent.
