WASHINGTON: US President Joe Biden has felicitated President Alvi on Pakistan Day and expressed the resolve to strengthen partnership with Pakistan in future.

He said this in a letter to President Arif Alvi felicitating him and Pakistani nation on the occasion of Pakistan Day. He stated that the partnership between the two countries is based on the common goal of regional prosperity.

The US President said we will continue cooperation for the establishment of peace in Afghanistan and meet common challenges including the coronavirus and climate change.

Russian President Vladimir Putin also sent congratulatory messages to President Dr Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Imran Khan as the country celebrates Pakistan Day.

“Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, sent the congratulatory message on the occasion of a national holiday – the Pakistan Day to H.E. Dr. A. Alvi, President of Pakistan, and H.E. Mr. Imran Khan, Prime Minister of Pakistan,” Russian Embassy in Pakistan said on Twitter.

Earlier, in another tweet, Spokeswoman of Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova said, “Russia and Pakistan maintain friendly relations, a regular political dialogue and interaction at international organisations. We send greetings to our Pakistani friends.”

The country is celebrating Pakistan Day but the festivities have been dampened as the nation battles a third wave of the coronavirus pandemic. All events commemorating the day will be held under strict compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Pakistan Day commemorates the passing of the Lahore Resolution on March 23, 1940, when the All-India Muslim League demanded a separate nation for the Muslims of the British Indian Empire.

The national flag was hoisted atop all major government buildings. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) also released a special song in connection with the day. However, the Pakistan Day parade had to be rescheduled to March 25 due to inclement weather in the capital.
