ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Political Communication Shahbaz Gill has said the present government has created an enabling environment for the promotion of housing sector in the country.
Addressing a news conference, he said the mortgage financing facility introduced by the government will enable the people to build and own affordable houses.
Shahbaz Gill announced that a peri-urban housing scheme is being launched in Punjab next month. In the first phase, this scheme will be executed on a land of 3,000 kanals in 26 tehsils of the province.
He said under this project, houses will be provided to the low-income groups on easy installments. The total cost of a house in this housing scheme will be Rs1.4 million rupees. He said the housing project will be expanded to all tehsils of Punjab.
Shahbaz Gill said that work on another housing project will also be started in Farash Town, Islamabad next month. He said 4,000 apartments will be built in it and each apartment will cost Rs2.7 million. He said journalists will also be given apartments in this housing scheme.
Earlier, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan said the PTI-led government was pursuing the vision of the prime minister to ensure reasonable and low-cost housing facilities for the people who cannot afford their own accommodations.
Speaking to state-owned channel, he said the provision of affordable housing units was a priority of the government and the prime minister has directed the Housing Ministry to ensure completion of the ongoing housing projects within the stipulated time.

On Thursday, Prime Minister Imran Khan allotted 1,008 flats and 500 houses for labourers and widows on low-cost mortgage in a bid to uplift the weaker segments of society.
He performed balloting at the site of affordable residences constructed in the suburbs of Islamabad, under the Naya Pakistan Housing Project. Constructed in Zone V of the federal capital, the multi-storey units will provide a decent living for small families with electricity, natural gas and water supply.
The flats and houses will be handed over at 10 percent payment of total cost. The housing units, each with a living room, two bedrooms a kitchen and a bathroom have been built on a subsidy of Rs 300,000 for each unit.Â
PM Imran Khan said in the first phase, over 1,500 flats and houses would be distributed and the same number would be replicated in the second phase as well. He said the project will be expanded to other parts of the country.
