ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that all the senators of the opposition voted for Yousaf Raza Gilani in the elections for Chairman Senate.

Speaking at a dinner reception held at Zardari House in honour of the newly-elected Senators, Bilawal announced that they would challenge the presiding officer’s decision in the Islamabad High Court in hope for justice. Leading party leaders, senators and lawyers were present on the occasion.

Bilawal Bhutto rejected the notion that some opposition senators had deliberately wasted their vote, adding that he had full confidence in all the senators of the opposition.

He said according to the instructions of the Secretary Senate, the senators were told to affix the stamp anywhere in the candidate’s box. All opposition senators voted for Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, he added.

Bilawal said that all the opposition parties are united on the platform of PDM. He said that the decision of the presiding officer will soon be challenged in the Islamabad High Court. “We have made great inroads against the selected Imran Khan government in the parliament and confidence in his government has been lost,” he said.

Bilawal Bhutto said that in order to continue PDM’s success, it was imperative that the opposition members do not resign. The issue of whether or not to resign from parliament is important and will be decided from the platform of PDM, he added.

Earlier, Gilani met with PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and former President Asif Ali Zardari where it was decided to challenge the rejection of seven votes in Senate chairman election.

The PPP has decided to form a legal team comprising of Farooq H. Naek, Nayyar Hussain Bukhari, and Latif Khosa to defend the party in court.

The sources further shared that Bilawal Bhutto during the meeting termed the attempt to steal Gilani’s vote as a bid to create discord among the PDM.

Bilawal said the opponents should not consider PPP as weak and they will challenge those who stole their votes at every forum inside and outside parliament.
