ISLAMABAD: A scuffle broke out on Saturday during which former Prime Minister and Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi slapped a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activist.

PML-N leaders Abbasi and others including Musaddiq Malik, Marriyum Aurangzeb, Ahsan Iqbal, Rana Sanaullah were addressing a press conference outside Parliament House when activists of the PTI and PML-N clashed leading to a heated argument.

The PTI activists were holding placards supporting the prime minister and raised slogans while standing behind the PML-N leaders. Abbasi was furious over the interruption and vented his anger by slapping a PTI worker twice standing in front of him.

The worker also struck him back but security officials came in and took away the PML-N leaders from the scene. The enraged political workers hurled shoes at the PML-N leaders which hit Ahsan Iqbal.

Abbasi said he did not want any security and said that that political worker doesn’t abuse anyone with a differing opinion. He alleged that the ongoing session of the National Assembly was unconstitutional and illegal. He blamed the president, prime minister and Speaker NA for the tense situation outside the parliament.

PML-N spokesperson Maryam Aurangzeb slammed the PTI workers for the incident. She questioned the Interior Minister who claimed that no one could reach the Parliament House. “The lions of the PML-N have chased the PTI thugs,” she said.

Speaking to media, Musaddiq Malik said that this is a state where a woman’s dignity is not safe. He claimed that Maryam Aurangzeb was abused during the incident. The PTI workers had gathered at D-Chowk to exhibit support to Prime Minister Imran Khan after the premier announced to take vote of confidence from the National Assembly (NA).

The PTI activists from Jhelum, Attock and other cities gather at D-Chowk to show solidarity with the premier. The political workers have been fully activated across the country including social media platforms to counter opposition parties showing public support.

A campaign has also been initiated on social media campaign to elaborate the policies of the PTI-led government. Under the ongoing campaign, the ruling political party has also released a documentary film regarding the premier’s narrative against corruption and horse-trading in the Senate.
