KARACHI: Opposition Leader in Sindh Assembly Haleem Adil Shaikh has been booked under terrorism charges, police said.
Another case containing anti-terrorism provisions has been filed against the PTI leader over his alleged involvement in a brawl that took place between PPP and PTI workers at the PS-88 constituency in Karachi.
The case against was filed at the Memon Goth police station in District Malir. Anti-terror and other provisions have been included in the case registered against Shaikh.
Shaikh will be presented to an anti-terrorism court today to seek his remand. Three other cases including one pertaining to the possession of illegal weapons have been registered against him. A total of four cases were registered on February 16.
The police said the PTI leader and four others were nominated and arrested for one case. The four other suspects have been nominated in three other cases of possession of illegal weapons.
Yesterday, Haleem Adil Shaikh was arrested by police for violating the orders of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) amid the voting process during PS-88 by-polls.
The election commission took strict action against Haleem Adil Sheikh who was roaming freely in the constituency along with his armed guards during the by-elections and visiting different polling stations.
The authorities had warned Shaikh to immediately leave the constituency. He was later arrested by police after he refused to obey the ECP orders and evicted from the area.
