Dairy farmers increase milk price by Rs20 per litre in Karachi

KARACHI: Dairy farmers have announced a massive Rs20 per litre increase in milk prices without any notification by official authorities.

After the hike, the retail price of milk will be Rs140 a litre. This was announced by Dairy and Cattle Farmers Association President Shakir Umar Gujjar. He said the wholesale price has been increased by Rs20 per litre and the retail price by Rs4 per litre.

Milk is currently being sold at Rs120 in Karachi. According to Commissioner Karachi’s office, the price of milk price is Rs94 per litre. The new unilateral price raise suggest a difference of Rs46 between officially regulated rates and newly revised rates announced by dairy farmers.

Many milk retailers have denied the rate revision and asserted they will continue to sell milk at regulated prices.

It may also be mentioned that price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) has also been increased by Rs10.37 per kilogramme for the month of February.

According to a notification by Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), the price of an 11.8 kg LPG cylinder for domestic consumers has been increased up by Rs122.36 to Rs1863.14. The previous price of the cylinder was Rs1,741. The price of a commercial cylinder has been increased by Rs471 to Rs7,168 from Rs6,697.
