KARACHI: Pakistan Railways authorities and the provincial governement have failed to remove illegal encroachments on the lands belonging to Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) megaproject.
Illegal squatter settlement have propped up on land when authorities had earlier taken action while flats and houses are also being built on the public lands. Illegal housing societies have already been set up on property belonging to the railways.
Chairman Railways Society Abdul Khaliq Farooqi and Administrator Mahmood-ul-Haq Farooqi have failed to take action against individuals involved in the illegal occupation of public lands. This includes Shahzad Saleem, Afsar Ali, Kamran, Asif Lania, Waqar, Hassan, Faizan, Ashraf Rasool, Wajahat Hussain and others who are involved in occupying and disposing railway property since past two decades.
Chairman Railways Society along with his brother has partronised the lands mafia who has sold several plots along the KCR in Gulistan-e-Jauhar and other areas including Liaquatabad and North Nazimabad where high-rise buildings and houses have been constructed.
The authorities have failed to stop these illegal constructions neither have public been warned from investing in these projects, implying that it is tacitly supporting the land mafia.
A few days ago, shops have been illegally constructed along the KCR track in Liaquatabad. They shops were demolished on court orders but have propped up again. While the Pakistan Railways and Sindh government has been claiming to conducting operation and clearing KCR’s tracks, it has failed to take action against those involved in these illegal occupations.
