GILGIT BALTISTAN: Prime Minister Imran Khan has announced that the government has decided to elevate Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) to the status of a full-fledged province with all constitutional rights under the United Nations Security Council resolution.
Addressing the GB’s 73rd Independence Day Parade on Sunday, the prime minister said all constitutional rights, including its representation in the Senate and the National Assembly under the United Nations Security Council resolution, will be given the region.
Prime Minister Imran Khan also paid special tribute to the martyrs of the region “who laid down their lives for Pakistan multiple times”.
He said, “On this day, I especially wish to pay tribute to the youth of Gilgit-Baltistan who sacrificed in Kargil, in the war against terrorism, and the heroes of 1947 and 1948,”
“On this day of independence as I stand here, I want to say to the whole nation: we must follow those rules and the foundation that was laid then. And that’s how we will progress. The two foundation stones on which the state of Madina rested are justice and law,” he added.
PM Imran further, “I am pleased and happy to visit Gilgit-Baltistan for the second time.” He added that 15 years back when he visited the region, the Karakoram Highway was under construction.
He said that God has given such beauty to the region which cannot be found anywhere in the world. PM Imran said that in the coming days GB will be the economic base camp of Pakistan as the region holds key importance in terms of economic prosperity.
The prime minister said, “I want to bring the enlightened, moderate and progressive face of the GB before the world.” Protecting the rights of people from Gilgit-Baltistan is the top agenda of the PTI government, he added.
Referring to the strategic location of the region, the PM said, “People of the region are defense shield of Pakistan and their sacrifices for the country are written in the history with golden words.”
PM Imran further said that opposition parties are targeting the army chief and ISI for their own gains. “I will never give them NRO at any cost,” he stated.
The PM maintained, “The opposition leaders are using all tactics to blackmail me but I will never bow down to their pressure.” He said they are speaking the language of Narendra Modi.
“Those who looted the country’s wealth during the last 30 years have gathered to save themselves, PMImran mentioned that the country is safe and secure due to the sacrifices of the armed forces”.
