COVID-19: President Alvi asks people to observe SOPs

QUETTA:  With the number of coronavirus cases rising in the country, President Dr Arif Alvi has urged the nation to opt for precautionary measures to avert the resurgence of the virus.

While talking to Governor Balochistan Justice (retd) Amanullah Khan Yasinzai at Governor House today the President said, “The situation in many countries is once again becoming a concern. As a responsible nation, we have to follow precautionary measures to prevent the deadly virus,” he added.

He advised people not to ignore precautions and avoid gatherings at wedding halls and hugging to prevent further spread of the virus.

“In order to avert its resurgence, they are required to keep observing precautions for a few more months to purge the country of the disease,” he added.

The Governor of Balochistan informed the President that the teaching process had been initiated in the universities under standard operating procedures (SOPs) across the province.

Chief Secretary Balochistan apprised the meeting that the corona rate was 1.5 percent in Balochistan and positive tests had been reported in 500 students. The current number of positive cases was 213 in the province, he added.

President Dr. Arif Alvi expressed satisfaction over the steps taken by the government for the prevention of coronavirus in Balochistan.

The number of active cases of coronavirus has risen to 9,855 across the country. Moreover, 13 more people have lost their lives due to Covid-19 in the last 24 hours across the country; and the total number of deaths due to the global pandemic has risen to 6,715.

According to the latest data released by the National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC), 736 new cases of covid-19 were reported in Pakistan in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases across the country to 326,216 and 309,646 patients have recovered so far.

The total number of patients in Sindh province is 142,917 while in Punjab province it is 122,253, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa it is 38,886, in Balochistan it is 15,767, in Islamabad, it is 18,578 and in Azad Kashmir 3,688 Covid-19 patients were reported whereas, in Gilgit Baltistan, the number was 4,127.
