CCTV footage surfaces of Gulshan-e-Iqbal explosion

KARACHI: CCTV footage has surfaced of the explosion at a residential building near Maskan Chowrangi in Gulshan-e-Iqbal area that occurred on Wednesday morning.

Five people were killed and 30 injured in the explosion. The Bomb Disposal Squad has ruled out any explosive devices and said the blast was caused by a gas leak.

An FIR has been registered at the Gulshan-e-Iqbal police station by the manager of a bank where the explosion took place. The bank was located on the ground and mezzanine floors of the apartment near the University Karachi.

The FIR includes sections of intentional manslaughter and causing damage. The complainant said he was at the bank with other staff members when the blast occurred. He said the bank’s roof collapsed due to the blast and called for action against the people responsible for the explosion.

At least five people were killed and twenty people were injured in an explosion near Maskan Chowrangi in Gulshan-i-Iqbal area. Rescue officials said a section of the residential building collapsed in the incident.

At least twenty people have been injured in the incident were shifted to a nearby hospital. Eyewitnesses reported that windows of nearby buildings were shattered while some vehicles and motorcycles were also damaged. 

The Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) has inspected the building and declared the remaining portion as precarious. There were 18 staff members in the bank at the time of the blast and a security guard was killed.

Inspector General Police Sindh has taken notice of the incident. He has sought a detailed report of the incident from SSP East. Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has also summoned a report from Karachi Administrator Iftikhar Shallwani.

Sindh CM has instructed officials to provide treatment to the injured and expressed his sadness over the loss of lives. PPP Minister Saeed Ghani, who visited the site of the blast, said that it seemed the explosion occurred in a residential building.

Responding to a question, Ghani said it could not be confirmed whether the explosion was a terrorist attack until further investigation was conducted. He said the government would provide relief to the victims and bear the cost of their treatment.
