MELBOURNE: Australian pop star Sia has revealed that she suffers from a neurological disease that gives her chronic pain.

In a tweet, the singer-songwriter shared her health issues and she is in chronic pain. She revealed that she had Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), a rare condition that can cause joint pain and extreme fatigue.

The Chandelier singer is known for being secretive about her life, and regularly hides her face under wigs and headgear. She has had a string of solo hits and has written songs for Rihanna, Beyonce, Katy Perry and Adele.

“I’m suffering with chronic pain, a neurological disease, ehlers danlos and I just wanted to say to those of you suffering from pain, whether physical or emotional, I love you, keep going,” Sia tweeted.

“Pain is demoralizing, and you’re not alone”.

According to the UK’s National Health Service there are 13 types of EDS, a condition that affects connective tissue around the body. Some forms are mild while others can be disabling. The disorder is rare, affecting one in 50,00 individuals worldwide.

Sia has opened up in the past about her addiction to alcohol and prescription medication.

She said in 2013: ‘I got seriously addicted to Vicodin and Oxycodone, and I was always a drinker but I didn’t know I was an alcoholic. I was really unhappy, being an artist, and I was getting sicker and sicker.’

Last year she posted a tweet celebrating that she was “eight years sober”.
