LAHORE: Punjab Information Minister Fayyazul Hassan Chohan has said that those involved in the treason should be arrested immediately.

While addressing a press conference, Fayyazul Hassan Chohan said that the uninterrupted supply of wheat in Punjab is our top priority.

He said that the situation regarding 4.8 million tonnes of wheat has been handled efficiently and Punjab is responsible for the supply of 80 percent wheat across the country. “There is no wheat crisis in Punjab, he maintained.

The provincial information minister said that some time ago there was an artificial wheat crisis but this year the Punjab government has achieved 91 percent of the wheat target. “Punjab also gives wheat to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir,” he said.

He said that Sindh had achieved the target of 1.5 million tonnes of wheat this year but the negligence of the Sindh government would lead to a wheat crisis. “The Sindh government is doing this to cover up corruption and harass the federal government, Chohan said.

He said that the Sindh government was given a quota of 500,000 tonnes of wheat. The Sindh government did not give a single grain of wheat to 1.5 million tonnes of flour mills.

He said that Punjab had given the price of wheat to the farmers at the rate of Rs. 1,400 per quintal. Now the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government should start issuing wheat to avoid a crisis.
