Governor Sindh Imran Ismail meets Governor Punjab

KARACHI: Governor Sindh  Imran Ismail on Tuesday held a meeting with Governor Punjab Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar and apprised him about the relief activities.

Governor Sindh briefed about the damages caused by the recent rainfall in the province and the efforts to help the rain-affected people. He stressed on the need for inter-provincial coordination and increasing further cooperation in diverse fields.

Addressing media after the meeting, Sindh Governor Imran Ismail said he witnessed seriousness regarding the issues faced by Karachi for the first time in his political career.

He said a plan has been devised for Karachi with the help of all stakeholders regardless of political affiliation as the entire city was submerged within a few hours of rain.

He said it was not the federal government’s responsibility when the Sindh government is receiving funds. He said an impartial administrator will be appointed in Karachi and discussions were underway.

The governor pointed out that downpour has been classified as a Level 2 disaster due to the extensive damage, adding no city in the world could cope with rainfall of such intensity.

He added that the government will distribute ration to 0.1 million people in Karachi and will continue to facilitate them in every possible manner.

Governor Sindh said and Prime Minister Imran Khan is monitoring the situation and will soon visit and announce his plan devised for the city and they will solve all issues of the provincial capital at any cost.

Governor Punjab said he will announce a relief package for the rain-affected people of the province. He said the Punjab government stands with the people of Karachi in this hour of need and will not leave them alone.

Governor Punjab is visiting Karachi on the direction of the prime minister along with members of the business community and charity organisations.

With the collaboration of the ‘Friends of Pakistan’ initiative, a special package will be given to 10,000 deserving families for repairing houses damaged by floods and torrential rains in Karachi.

Prior to his departure, the Punjab governor highlighted that he will visit Karachi, Badin and other districts that have been affected by floods along with other charity organisations to help needy families.
