KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has visited different rain-hit areas in Karachi and directed officials concerned to speed up the water drainage process.
According to a statement, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah visited different parts of Karachi today for inspecting the ongoing water drainage work in affected areas hit by heavy rain.
CM Murad Ali Shah visited Shaheen Grid Station of K-Electric where he was welcomed by KE CEO Moonis Alvi. Shah directed the deputy commissioner of Korangi to immediately bring sandbags.
He said that Shaheen Grid Station is supply power to the whole Defence area and sandbags were installed for stopping rainwater pouring inside the installation.
The drainage work was underway with the collaboration of the Sindh government from the grid station. The spokesperson of the CM said that 12 out of 197 electricity feeders are currently functional, whereas, Defence Phase VI electricity will be restored after the complete drainage of rainwater.
The spokesperson added that the local administration is making efforts to clearing the installation from rainwater tonight.
Furthermore, the chief minister also visited Street 26 and Bukhari Commercial Lanes of the metropolis and inspected the water drainage work continued by CBC, KWSB and KMC teams. CM Shah ordered teams to ensure clearing the street till tonight.
During his visit, the chief minister was accompanied by provincial minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla and his aide Murtaza Wahab.
On the other hand, the torrential rains in Sindh including Karachi have inundated low-lying areas, creating trouble for the locals.
Several areas of Karachi remained submerged and without power on Sunday, four days after record-breaking rains wreaked havoc on the city.
Residents took to social media to complain about power outages lasting more than 72 hours, as several parts of Karachi including Defence, Clifton, Tower, Orangi, Surjani Town, Naya Nazimabad and old city areas remained inundated with water.
In a video message, PTI MPA Shehzad Qureshi blamed the Cantonment Board Clifton (CBC) and the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) for failing to address the situation in the respective areas.
