ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Friday directed the Sindh government that all official residences should be vacated from illegal occupants within two months.
Chief Justice of Pakistan Gulzar Ahmed headed a bench and directed the provincial government to cancel all illegal allotments and issue residences to officials on merit. The apex court instructed the government to submit a compliance report at the next hearing.
During the hearing, Additional Advocate General Sindh informed the court that around 229 government residences have been illegally occupied and the process to evict occupants was halted due to coronavirus pandemic.
The counsel for Capital Development Authority (CDA) said that the Inspector General Police (IGP) Islamabad’s residence was also allotted illegally, as the police have illegally occupied over 200 quarters.
The chief justice said the court would take up the issue of illegal occupation by police at the next hearing. The proceedings were adjourned for two months.
