Industry leaders protest provision of gas share to K-Electric

KARACHI: President of SITE Association of Industry Suleman Chawla has protested over the decision of the federal government to provide gas share of general industries to K-Electric and demanded to immediately withdraw this decision.

In a statement, he appealed to the prime minister and Chief Minister Sindh to save industries from closure by no provision electricity and gas during daytime.

Chawla said that the decision of the federal government to close gas supply for general industries 10-12th July and providing to K-Electric is not acceptable to industries.

“This is also not in the interest of national economy as suspension of core utilities like electricity and gas have direct impact on production which will ultimately result in fall of exports from Pakistan,” he said in a statement.

He further said that it is sheer injustice with Karachi industries to provide their share of gas to K-Electric for power generation. He said government should take notice of prolonged load shedding in Karachi and action against K-Electric for its inefficiency.

“It is most unfortunate that in the ‘Naya Pakistan’ too, K-Electric has been given license to loot the people of Karachi in the name of fuel adjustment charges,” Chawla remarked.

President SITE Association expressed displeasure over the current situation and the closure of industries. “If the government wants to close industries, then tell us so that we cn close the industries and hand over keys to SSGC and K-Electric,” he said.

He said the industries are still passing through a crisis due to coronavirus pandemic and the closure of power and gas to industries will destroy them and result in more unemployment.

He demanded the government to take industry-friendly steps and provide a conducive atmosphere to do business and create more avenues for employment.
