LAHORE: The district administration of Lahore has announced that seven more areas in the city will be put under lockdown from tonight to limit the spread of COVID-19.
According to a notification issued on Wednesday, a week-long lockdown will be imposed in these areas where the COVID-19 cases have increased.
The deputy commissioner said the decision was taken after 877 COVID-19 cases were reported from these areas. The lockdown will start from tonight.
The areas under lockdown are Township, block A-2, Wapda Town, DHA-EME, Johar Town, block C, Green City, Punjab Government Scheme and Chungi Amar Sadhu Main Bazaar and adjacent areas. Punjab has reported 83,599 cases and 1,929 deaths.
A smart lockdown had already been carried out in several areas of Lahore. The provincial home department had also issued a formal notification in this regard.
According to the notification issued by the provincial government, all the blocks of Gulberg, Model Town, Faisal Town, and Garden Town will remain closed.
It said that journalists, doctors, and paramedics would be allowed to pass through the closed areas. The government officials, lawyers, pharmacy staff, and grocery staff have also been allowed to visit areas closed in Lahore due to the coronavirus.
The number of confirmed coronavirus cases has surged to 237,849 in Pakistan, while the death toll stands at 4,922.
According to the National Command and Control Center (NCOC), more than 2,980 cases of coronavirus were reported while 83 people succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours.
As many as 140,965 patients have recovered from the disease, while the country is still witnessing a consistent rise in the COVID-19 cases.
