LAHORE: Continuing with its daily addition of a significant number of COVID-19 deaths, Pakistan has reported 3,755 deaths.
The number of confirmed coronavirus cases has surged to 188,926 in the country. According to the National Command and Control Center (NCOC), more than 3,892 cases of coronavirus were reported while 60 people succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours.
As many as 77,754 patients have recovered from the disease, while the country is still witnessing a consistent rise in the COVID-19 cases.
There have been 69,536 cases so far been detected in Punjab, 72,656 in Sindh, 23,338 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 9,634 in Balochistan, 11,483 Islamabad, 1,337 in Gilgit Baltistan and 892 in Azad Kashmir.
Out of a total of 3,755 deaths, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reported 808 deaths, Sindh 1,124, Balochistan 176, Gilgit-Baltistan 23, Punjab 1,516, Azad Kashmir 23 and Islamabad Capital Territory has reported 108 death.
Pakistan’s government has identified 500 coronavirus hotspots across the country to be targeted in its smart lockdown strategy.
Prime Minister’s special adviser on health, Zafar Mirza said that these areas would be targeted for limited locality-based lockdowns which the government has dubbed smart lockdowns to control the spread of the coronavirus.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Pakistan has emerged as one of the countries with the fastest rate of coronavirus infections in recent weeks.
