Govt is taking steps for betterment of journalist community: Shibli Faraz

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Shibli Faraz has said that media is working freely in the country and government is taking steps for betterment of journalist community.
Talking to a private TV channel, he said government firmly believes in the fundamental and legal right of freedom of expression, adding that the issues confronted by media could be resolved with joint efforts by government and journalists.
The minister further said that the previous governments did not pay attention to formulating media laws. He urged media to play a constructive role for the betterment of the country and its people.
He said “Today media is not facing those limitations and hardships as in the past.” The federal government will provide all possible facilities for the promotion of independent and responsible journalism, Faraz added. 
He vowed to promote the government policies and to develop Information Ministry on modern lines with full spirit and dedication.
The minister said he would have a meeting with representatives of journalist on Tuesday to find a viable solution to their problems and clearance of ‘vital dues’ before Eidul Fitr.
Syed Shibli Faraz said that a mechanism was being evolved to ensure the salary protection of media workers.
He said the media’s role in the ongoing fight against COVID-19 was appreciable and like doctors and paramedical staff, the media persons were front line soldiers in the war against the epidemic, he added.
Shibli Faraz said PM Imran Khan after coming into government took practical steps for the welfare of vulnerable segments of the society facing financial constraints.
The Information Minister further said that the government will take along all the federating units to address the situation arising out of the coronavirus epidemic.
