RIYADH: The Imam of the Grand Mosque in Makkah Abdul Rahman Ibn Abdul Aziz al-Sudais has said that Taraweeh prayers in the month holy month of Ramazan will be limited to ten rakat.
Abdul Rahman As-Sudais, president of the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques said, “Taraweeh, special night prayers performed during the holy month of Ramzan, will be held without public attendance at the Grand Mosque and the Al-Masjid an-Nabawi.”
As-Sudais further said, “Taraweeh will be performed mainly with staff.” He further added, “Itikaf, the Islamic practice of secluding oneself in the mosque to pray, has been canceled at both mosques.”
Earlier, Abdul Aziz bin Abdullah Al-Sheikh said that prayers during Ramzan would be performed at home if the COVID-19 outbreak continues.
According to him, Ramadan’s Taraweeh (evening) prayer can be performed at home if it cannot be performed at mosques as a measure against the COVID-19. The fasting month of Ramzan begins this week.
It is pertinent to remember that Saudi Arabia reported 1122 new cases of coronavirus on Monday, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 10,484 with confirmed 6 deaths, bringing the total number of deaths in the kingdom to 103.
