KARACHI: Karachi police on Tuesday sealed two textile mills for violating Sindh government’s lockdown orders.
According to the Senior Superintendent of Police for Malir, Syed Muhammad Ali Raza, on a tip-off a police team conducted a targeted raid at two textile factories owned by Yunus Textile Mills Limited and Alkaram Textile Mills Pvt. Ltd and the owners and other administrative officers were taken into custody.
Syed Muhammad Ali Raza further said during the raid police sealed both the mills. He said the operation was conducted on the instruction of Karachi Commissioner Iftikhar Ali Shallwani, who then ordered both factories to be shut down, the police official added.
He said later the mill owners and administrative officers were released after they submitted written assurances that they would not defy the lockdown orders further.
Ali Raza added that Alkaram had violated the lockdown orders 10 days ago as well and an official case was filed against their administration. However, after obtaining bail, they had reopened their factory.
Nonetheless, both factories were now to remain sealed as long as the lockdown continues, Raza underlined.
According to a Sindh home department notification, the lockdown was enforced in the province, leading to a complete ban on public movement, social and religious gatherings across the province under Sindh Epidemic Diseases Act 2014 in view of the increase in the number of coronavirus cases.
“All public and private offices, shopping malls, markets, parks, restaurants and factories will remain closed till further orders, the notification said.
“The violation of the government orders will be considered as an offence punishable under section 188 of the Pakistan Penal code as provided under Section 4 of the Sindh Epidemic Diseases Act 2014” it added.
