Problems of fishermen increases due to lockdown in Karachi

KARACHI: The lockdown imposed to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus is affecting the livelihoods for thousands of fishermen along the shores of Karachi. 
The fishermen have been one of the victims of the lockdown as their boats remain standing on the jetties as their fishing business has been closed by the authorities. Many of them are fasting shortages and unable to make any income.
Fishermen of Ibrahim Haidery area in the Karachi area have also expressed concern over the lockdown. According to fishermen Ibrahim, Mohammed, Riaz, Manzoor, and Haji Ahmed, fishermen have set their boats on the shores while a large number of fishermen have suffered a decline in incomes.
The fishermen have called on the government to provide financial support to the fishing community through the Sindh Fisheries Department. They urged welfare agencies to assist the families of the fishermen in their settlements so that food shortages could be addressed.
On the second day of lockdown, the transport system in Karachi looked completely suspended as all non-essential travel has been banned. Public transport is not available at all times during the lockdown.
Police have blocked roads Karachi, central highways and several other areas. Rangers have been designated at six different locations from Sohrab Goth to Liaquatabad. The Sindh government has imposed fifteen lockdown to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
