KARACHI: Former ambassador Dr. Jamil Ahmed Khan has said that the US-Taliban peace deal was a great success of Pakistan as it played a vital role in resolving the issue between the two countries.
While speaking in an interview, Dr. Jamil Ahmed Khan told that Pakistan had steadily played its role in bringing the issue at the negotiating table without resorting to China, Russia, and other friendly countries.
Expressing his views on the peace deal between the US and the Taliban, Khan said that Pakistan has made all efforts for successful negotiations between the two.
According to him, due to this positive step, Pakistan has established a positive identity in the world.
“Peace in the region will benefit other countries, including Pakistan,” he added.
While commenting on the role of India, he said that India has been trying to sabotage this peace process and would continue to do so but in the future.
Despite the peace agreement, the United States would technically remain in Afghanistan and watch over the region, the former ambassador predicted.
The Taliban want to play their part in the development of the region and also wanted to participate in the success of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) which was possible because of the diplomacy of Pakistan.
