Scholars highlight importance of information technology in economic development

KARACHI: The two-day long second International Conference on Information Science and Communication Technology at the University of Karachi ends on a high note on Sunday.

The scholars Determined to uphold the culture of information technology to enhance the economic development of the country.

The chief guest of the concluding session was provincial IT minister Nawab Muhammad Taimur Talpur said that it is a great opportunity for students to learn from national and foreign experts to take part in the country’s development.

Describing the performance of the Sindh government in various sectors, he mentioned that under the guidance of Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah, Sindh government is the most progressive province at the moment, in tax returns, local governance and healthcare.

He said the role of information technology is very vital and the Sindh government would make sure all the government hospitals should be connected with modern IT software.

Health Department is doing great in the province, added that as people from other provinces come to Sindh for healthcare services.

He observed that we are lagging behind from other provinces in the IT sector but we are still working quite hard in order to compete with other provinces.

He said that provincial government has established an advisory committee comprising of IT companies and IT experts on the government level.

Meanwhile, the Karachi university’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi said that he believes that IT is one of the leading components of global economies. He observed that the fields of the conference including cybersecurity have great importance across the world.

He urged IT and computer science students to be innovative and to keep themselves aware of the modern trends and changes in the field nationally and globally.

The Dean Faculty of Science KU Professor Dr Tabassum Mehboob informed the audience that the varsity always on the search for platforms for academics and researchers to share their stories, studies and experiences with each other as well as with students all of who belong to the field of Information Science and Communication Technology.

She said that the ICISCT ’20 was important for all those who belong to the field both nationally and internationally.

 During the last day, Anders Schmidt Kristensen, Department of Energy Technology, Aalborg University, delivered the keynote address on Computer-Based Egress Simulation of Multiple Scenarios while Enrique Nava from University Professor ETSI Telecommunications, Malaga University presented the keynote address on a brief evolution of image processing techniques in medical applications.

Meanwhile, Nawab Muhammad Faseeh Qureshi of Sungkyunkwan University, Seoul, South Korea, Professor Hui Wang, University of Ulster, UK,  Rtd Vice Admiral, Pakistan Navy, Syed Arifullah Hussaini, Dr Syed Attique Shah from Department of Information Technology, BUITEMS, Quetta and others spoke on different topics during the conference.
