SUKKUR: Another troubling picture of Sindh’s development infrastructure has emerged from Sukkur, where electricity poles standing in the middle of a major road connecting the Industrial Area with Old Sukkur have reportedly remained a serious safety hazard for more than a decade.

Despite the passage of over ten years, the dangerous obstructions have yet to be removed, raising questions about the performance of the local administration and the provincial government’s development claims.

Speaking to a private television channel, residents of the area expressed anger and frustration over the continued neglect of the road. They said that neither had the deteriorating road conditions been improved nor had the electricity poles obstructing traffic been relocated despite repeated concerns.

According to a local resident, the presence of electricity poles in the middle of the road has contributed to several serious traffic accidents over the years. The resident claimed that at least two people had lost their lives in these incidents, but the authorities had failed to take effective action.

Mayor Reveals SEPCO Was Paid Five Years Ago
Meanwhile, when Sukkur Mayor Arslan Sheikh was approached for his response, he made a significant claim regarding the delay in removing the electricity poles.

The mayor said that funds had been formally paid to the Sukkur Electric Power Company (SEPCO) five years ago for relocating the poles. However, he claimed that the power utility was now demanding additional funds.

The revelation has raised further questions about why the issue has remained unresolved for so many years despite the alleged payment of funds.

Residents Demand Immediate Action
Residents have urged Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and the provincial government to take immediate notice of the situation in Sukkur, particularly following the recent controversy over electricity poles obstructing a road in Hyderabad.

They have called for the removal of the dangerous poles, improvements to the road and action against the officials responsible for the prolonged delay.

The continued presence of these obstacles has renewed concerns over public safety and the effectiveness of development planning in Sindh.
