KARACHI: Questions have emerged over the online registration process for the Prime Minister’s Youth Chromebook Scheme, as students in Sindh have been unable to find the province listed as an available option on the application form. However, a notice on the official scheme portal clarifies when registration for students in Sindh is expected to open.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recently launched a programme to distribute 500,000 Chromebooks among deserving and talented students across the country. The initiative aims to improve students’ access to modern technology and internet facilities, enabling them to benefit from digital learning, online educational resources and e-libraries.
Addressing the launch ceremony, the prime minister said the distribution of Chromebooks would be based on students’ ability and hard work. Under the programme, students are also set to receive bags and MiFi devices to help them access the internet and educational resources.
The government aims to distribute the devices over a period of two years.
When Will Registration Open for Students in Sindh?
According to a notice on the official Prime Minister’s Youth Chromebook Scheme portal, registration for students in Sindh will open after the results of the 2026 annual Class 9 examinations are announced by all educational boards in the province.
This means the registration process for Sindh students is currently pending. The absence of Sindh from the application form does not, according to the notice, indicate that the province has been permanently excluded from the scheme.
The official portal states that eligible Class 9 students enrolled in government schools under the educational boards of Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan will be considered on the basis of their performance in the 2026 annual examinations.

Separate eligibility criteria have been specified for outstanding students in Classes 9 and 10 in Islamabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Students Call for Early Registration
Students in Karachi and other parts of Sindh have raised questions about when they will be able to apply for the programme, particularly because the initiative has been presented as a nationwide scheme.
They have called for clear information about the registration procedure and expected opening date so that eligible applicants can participate in the selection process on merit.
Students maintain that access to modern educational technology should be available to deserving learners across all provinces and have urged the authorities to open registration for Sindh as soon as the eligibility requirements are met.
For now, the official portal indicates that students in Sindh will have to wait until the Class 9 annual examination results for 2026 are announced by the province’s educational boards. Students are advised to monitor the official scheme website for further announcements regarding registration.
