ISLAMABAD: The Shehbaz government has announced a reduction in petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) prices in Pakistan. However, as the revised rates are effective for October 20, 2026, concerns have emerged over a possible further adjustment in petroleum prices later tonight.
Fears of a potential increase have been fuelled by concerns over rising crude oil prices in the international market. However, no official announcement confirming another price hike has been reported in the information provided.
According to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division on October 19, petrol prices have been reduced by Rs5.16 per litre to Rs381.14 per litre. The price of high-speed diesel has been cut by Rs7.69 per litre, bringing it down to Rs389.27 per litre.
The notification states that the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) revised the ex-depot prices of petroleum products in accordance with the pricing mechanism established by the federal government. The adjustment took into account fluctuations in international Platts prices, premiums and other associated costs.
The government’s notification specifies October 20, 2026, as the effective date for the revised prices. Any further changes will depend on the relevant official announcement by the Petroleum Division.
Meanwhile, concerns persist over the outlook for domestic fuel prices amid uncertainty surrounding international crude oil prices. If global oil prices and associated costs continue to rise, they could put upward pressure on petroleum prices in Pakistan.
Following the latest reduction, consumers are now awaiting the government’s next decision on petroleum prices, with particular attention focused on whether another adjustment will be announced.
