JHANSI: An Indian court in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, has issued a non-bailable warrant against actress Rakhi Sawant in connection with a suicide case dating back to 2010.

According to Indian media reports, the court took the step following Sawant’s repeated failure to appear in court and directed the police to arrest her and produce her before the court.

The case reportedly stems from remarks allegedly made about a man during Sawant’s television programme, Rakhi Ka Insaaf. The man later died by suicide.

Court Orders Police to Arrest the Actress
According to Indian media reports, an Additional District and Sessions Judge at a fast-track court issued the non-bailable warrant against Sawant on October 16. The court directed the police to take her into custody and present her before it.

Government prosecutor Mridul Kant Srivastava said the next hearing in the case has been scheduled for December 1.

Case Dates Back to a Death in November 2010
The case concerns the death of Laxman Ahirwar, a resident of the Hansari area in Prem Nagar, Jhansi, who died on November 10, 2010.

According to media reports, following his death, his mother, Savitri, lodged a complaint alleging that Sawant had used insulting and inappropriate language about her son during an episode of her television programme aired in October 2010.

The complainant alleged that the remarks made during the programme were linked to her son’s death. However, the allegations remain subject to judicial proceedings, and their legal validity will be determined by the court.

The issuance of the non-bailable warrant has brought the decade-old case back into the spotlight. The next hearing is scheduled for December 1, according to the government prosecutor.
