ISLAMABAD: Amid growing political tensions in the country, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has once again offered conditional talks to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
The prime minister made it clear that the door to dialogue could only be opened if the party ends its long march and sit-ins. Otherwise, he warned, the law would take its course against those who cause damage to the country’s economy.
Addressing the groundbreaking ceremony of the Kashmir Chowk Underpass in Islamabad, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif sent a clear message to the opposition, saying that there would be no compromise on the country’s economic stability.
The prime minister once again urged the opposition to reconsider its approach. He said that if PTI ended its protests and long march, the government would be ready to hold talks with the party. Otherwise, he warned, the state would ensure that its writ was maintained.
Shehbaz Sharif cautioned that the proposed long march could directly affect the country’s already fragile economy, which he said the incumbent government had worked hard to stabilize despite difficult circumstances.
He further warned that the government would neither allow further damage to the economy nor permit sit-ins and long marches. If laws were violated, he said, state institutions would take strict action in accordance with the law.
