KARACHI: Progress has been made towards bringing a no-confidence motion against Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab.
According to sources, PTI members of the City Council recently met with the local leadership of Jamaat-e-Islami to discuss the proposed no-confidence motion against the mayor. The meeting also included discussions on consulting other political parties on the matter.
Jamaat-e-Islami’s opposition leader in the City Council, Saifuddin Advocate, confirmed contacts with PTI members and said that around 125 members had already signed in support of the motion. He added that consultations with other political parties were also underway.
According to Saifuddin, the motion would be tabled as soon as the Jamaat-e-Islami leadership gives the go-ahead, adding that there is sufficient support for it to succeed.
He also described the recent fire at the Karachi mayor’s office as suspicious and called for an independent investigation into the incident.
