KARACHI: Mir Raza Ali murder case has triggered fresh legal debate as the family’s lawyer rejected the Sindh government’s decision to form a judicial commission.
Jibran Nasir Advocate, counsel for the deceased’s family, demanded formation of a joint investigation team (JIT) to probe the killing.
Talking to the media at the Sindh High Court on Monday, he said the decision to form a judicial commission came to light yesterday through media reports.
He said a High Court judge is being nominated for the commission, adding that the family has not received a copy of the government’s decision yet.
Lawyer questions TORs of Mir Raza Ali murder case commission
Jibran Nasir asked whether anyone knows about the TORs of the commission. Under the law, he said, a judicial commission is formed in cases where a committee recommends it.
“We had also written a letter to the Sindh Chief Minister in this regard,” he said. The judicial commission can give findings, which the family does not support, he added.
Nasir said the work that needs to be done should be done by the investigation. Investigators should explain why evidence has been lost. No action has been taken against officials responsible for lapses, he said.
It may be added here that the Mir Raza judicial commission was announced by the Sindh cabinet just yesterday. The government wrote to the Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court for nomination of a judge.
Family demands JIT to probe Karachi Mir Raza murder
Nasir demanded a JIT to investigate the Mir Raza murder case. He said the team should include people from different institutions. The family is filing a petition in this regard today, he said.
The investigation officer appeared before the magistrate today. The officer has neither nominated anyone nor is there any hope of a supplementary challan, Nasir said.
“If action is being taken against the old investigation team, then let us know,” he said. The family does not know if any questions have been asked from the old team, he added.
He said none of the family’s twenty-four questions have been answered. No answer has been given regarding geo-fencing and other technical aspects. The last footage has not been shared with the family yet, he said.
“The showroom also had two cameras installed, but their footage has not been shared either. Nothing has been found about the motorcycle or the Alto car seen near the scene,” he said, adding that the Mir Raza Ali murder case should be properly taken to a JIT for a transparent probe.
