KARACHI: A special anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Karachi on Saturday has fixed the date for the joint indictment of accused Armaghan and others in five cases, including the high-profile Mustafa Amir murder case.
The ATC heard five cases related to the matter and rejected a request by the accused to transfer the Mustafa Amir murder case to the sessions court.
The court, however, accepted the complainant’s request for a joint trial and ordered to club five cases against Armaghan and other accused.
The court subsequently fixed a date for the joint indictment of the accused in all five cases.
During the proceedings, the court also sought arguments on the bail application of accused Shiraz at the next hearing.
The ATC adjourned further proceedings in all five cases until August 24.
The development comes days after the Sindh High Court expressed concern over delays in the trial and sought the case record along with a report detailing the progress of proceedings and reasons for the delay.
The mother of Mustafa Amir had approached the high court seeking an expedited trial, alleging that the proceedings had been delayed for around one-and-a-half years.
The high court had observed that prolonged delays could affect witness testimony and directed the trial court and prosecution to ensure expeditious proceedings.
