Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi says he finds it amusing when people describe Karachi as “Paris.”
Speaking on a podcast hosted by former Test cricketer Fawad Alam, Afridi said that moving from Karachi to Islamabad had been a difficult decision.
He described Karachi as a city of “wonderful people” and said he had spent a great deal of time there. However, he praised Islamabad for its pleasant weather and infrastructure, adding that the city also made it easier for him to travel to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other parts of the country because of the motorway network.
Afridi said he did not particularly miss Karachi itself, but he missed the people of the city.
He recalled recently visiting the Korangi area and said he was disappointed by the condition of the roads. After returning to Karachi following a long time, he had expected to see some improvements, but said he was saddened by what he saw.
“I hear people saying that Karachi is Paris, and it makes me laugh,” Afridi said.
The former captain also criticised the condition of University Road, saying he had been seeing the road in the same state for years.
He acknowledged that good work had been carried out on Shahrah-e-Bhutto and said it deserved to be appreciated. However, he stressed that much more needed to be done, adding that authorities could not satisfy themselves or the public by completing only one or two projects.
