The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is relocating approximately 200 graves at the Sohan Cemetery in Islamabad to facilitate the construction of a new link road connecting Sohan with Gulberg Greens.
The road, being built parallel to the Islamabad Expressway, is part of the CDA’s broader infrastructure plan aimed at improving connectivity and reducing traffic congestion in the federal capital.
According to the CDA, a section of the planned route passes through the Sohan graveyard, making the relocation of nearly 200 graves necessary before construction can proceed.

The authority said the relocation process is being carried out only with the approval and consent of the deceased’s legal heirs. Families have been requested to identify the graves of their relatives to ensure the process is conducted respectfully and accurately.
To ease the burden on affected families, the CDA is providing complete logistical support, including excavation, concrete blocks, and tiles required for the reburial. Officials said no expenses will be borne by the families during the relocation process.
The CDA maintains that the project is essential for enhancing the capital’s road network and facilitating smoother traffic flow between Sohan and Gulberg Greens.
