Amid growing cybersecurity threats, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a set of important guidelines to help users secure their mobile phones, computers, and other digital devices from cybercrime.
Like many countries around the world, Pakistan has seen a rise in online fraud, data theft, hacking, and cyber harassment. With smartphones, tablets, and computers storing sensitive personal information, photos, documents, and contacts, protecting digital devices has become increasingly important.
According to the PTA, effective device management can significantly improve security. Users are advised to regularly back up important files, photos, and contacts to secure cloud services or external storage devices to prevent data loss.
The authority also recommends keeping all devices updated with the latest security patches and software updates. In addition, users should enable strong security measures such as complex passwords, fingerprint authentication, or facial recognition to prevent unauthorized access.
Cybersecurity experts also advise enabling location-tracking features such as Find My iPhone and Find My Device for Android devices, which can help users locate, lock, or erase lost or stolen devices remotely.
For families, the PTA recommends using parental controls, screen-time management tools, app access restrictions, and content filters to create a safer digital environment for children.
The authority further urged users to perform a factory reset before selling, giving away, or sending a mobile phone, tablet, or computer for repairs to ensure that personal information cannot be accessed or misused by others.
